Live Coaching Webinars

This fall, the OVA will be offering a series of online coach development workshops on various topics to help coaches prepare for the season. In total, six webinars will be offered and delivered by some of the best coaches in the country. See full webinar descriptions below.

Coaches who attend the live webinars will receive:

  • one (1) PD point towards the maintenance of their certification for each live webinar they attend up to a maximum of 3 points
  • one (1) entry per live webinar towards a draw to win a free participation with accommodation at the 2018 OVA Coach Symposium in conjunction with the USport Men’s National Championship at McMaster University in March

To attend the webinars, you simply have to provide us with your name, email address and NCCP number by using this form, at least 48 hours in advance of the webinar. A link to your webinar will be sent by email one (1) day before the session. (Attendance will be confirmed during the live webinar)

Trainwave: Mental Performance for Volleyball Athletes

In this session, Kyle will answer those questions and help coaches set a strong foundation to their mental performance plan. He will go over the Trainwave workbook and explain to coaches how to use it to effectively and positively impact their players.

Keeping Your Athletes Healthy and Preventing Injuries
with Kerry McDonald, University of BC Men’s head coach, PhD candidate at the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre

What does the latest research show about injuries in volleyball and how can you prepare your athletes to stay healthy throughout the season? This webinar will inform coaches about methods of preventing injuries in their daily coaching. It will also cover the important concept of “load” and how to manage it in practice to better prepare athletes for competition.


Maximizing your 13U & 14U Athletes’ Development This Season
with LP Mainville, OVA Technical Director, MAC 13-14U coach for the last two years

Acquiring the right skills while developing a passion for volleyball is what’s most important for players when they begin in our sport. Is your annual plan designed in a way to achieve this goal? In this session, LP will discuss different ideas to help you prepare your players for the long term while inspiring them to love volleyball. This webinar will answer questions such as What kind of drills should I prioritize with my young players? What system of play should I use? How do I maximize the development of all the players on my team? How can I take advantage of the Triple Ball and Fair Play rules?


Seasonal Planning
with Richard Eddy, Team Ontario 18U girls head coach, University of Waterloo Women’s head coach

A seasonal plan is an extremely useful tool but most coaches do not use one because they either find it too complex or don’t know how to build one. In this session, coaches will learn how to create a simple seasonal plan that emphasizes their training priorities and that organizes the different areas of the players’ development in a meaningful way. This webinar will answer questions such as How much training vs competing should we do? How do I plan physical training and mental performance in my program? How long should my General Preparation Phase be?


How to Design Good Drills in the General Preparation Phase
